1. William Crozier

The Scots/Irish artist William Crozier (1930-2011) will feature in our Upper Gallery exhibition William Crozier: Nature into Abstraction.
In Crozier’s response to the natural environment, he developed an innovative vocabulary of abstract gestures and marks, informed by European and American abstract painting.  Like an archaeologist, Crozier uncovered ‘the savagery just beneath the surface’ of the natural world, rather than representing its topographical appearance. In Crozier's paintings, the nature observed provides the catalyst for a radical vision that gives us landscapes of dark revelation.

Scottish artist Caroline Walker, b.1982 will feature in our Main Gallery exhibition this summer, A Window into Scottish Art: The Ingram & Fleming Collections. Drawing on her own photographic source material, Walker provides a unique window into the everyday lives of women. Blurring the boundary between objectivity and lived experience, the artist highlights often overlooked jobs performed by women and the psychologically charged spaces they inhabit.
