Well I was always keen on sports so I played a lot of tennis and played hockey for the old girls, even when I was working. We used to have to work on Saturday mornings in those days, and worked till one o’clock. And I used to have to take all my hockey clobber with me and change in the office, and then I’d meet a friend, who also came from Woking, and she worked elsewhere in Guildford, and we’d probably go to Jo Lyons and have a lunch for about 9d or a shilling. And then we’d take ourselves off to wherever we had to go to play hockey. I mean, it might have been in Guildford, but it might have been at Walton on Thames, or it might have been Camberley, we used to go all over the place. We used to have to get ourselves there, and we had quite a lot of fun.
