A taste of what's to come at The Lightbox in 2010
As it approaches the end of its third winter season after a successful year of exhibitions, events and achievements, The Lightbox looks to the future and what’s in store for the public in 2010
To kick start the year, the incredibly popular Surrey Open Art Competition returns in March (9 Mar - 9 May) to once again engage with the Surrey artistic community. The last show in 2008 was a huge success and the gallery and museum is looking forward to showcasing a diverse range of prolific artistic talent from across the county. The competition is open to all levels of ability, from amateur artists to art students and professionals and over 200 entries are anticipated. Still open to entries, The Lightbox welcomes any local artists yet to enter to visit the website and get involved.
Since the success of this year’s national touring programme of ARTIST ROOMS, the gallery and museum now looks forward to sharing its second big partnership with Tate in The Art of Walter Sickert exhibition (16 May - 25 Jul). Sickert was an English Impressionist artist influenced by Degas, whose earliest major works were vivid portrayals of scenes in London Music Halls. Featuring over 25 major works from the Tate Collection, Pallant House Gallery, Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, and private collections, this exhibition will be a unique opportunity to see many works of this major 19th century artist all in one place.
Also to come will be a truly magical exhibition for all the family as The Lightbox presents The Wonderful World of Children’s Book Illustration (7 Aug- 7 Nov). The captivating exhibition is sure to be a delight to audiences of every age and will showcase work from a wide range of illustrators from the very established to up and coming new talent, a treasure trove of original artwork and illustrations will be displayed for all to enjoy this summer.
